A full 100 person field started the rain soaked course for the 50 mile Pro,1,2,3 race in Southern Albemarle County outside Charlottesville, VA. Nikolai Samekin (Regulators and formerly of the Belarus National Team) pushed the pace from the start. Theron Collucci and Eric Messenger of the Richbrau Team and Jon Wirsing, Erick Saunders and Jon Santorro of Snow Valley traded attacks without any success until the Canadian team pros Czeslaw Lukaszewics and John Powell escaped about 8 miles into the race.
Jon Hamblen (Snow Valley) launched a chase with Erik Messenger (Richbrau) and Brian Dykes (Navigators) coming along. The five riders soon formed an effective breakaway with the Snow Valley and Richbrau squads shutting down the field. Messenger blew with 20 miles to go so the break was down to four. Hamblen came into the finishing hill with a strong effort, but Lukaszewics was able to come around in the last 200 meters to take the victory. Dykes and Powell came in for 3rd and 4th. Erick Saunders (Snow Valley) managed to break clear of the field to finish 5th. Nikolai Samekin blasted the field sprint for 5th (one place out of the money- aargh!). Roger Friend (MVC/PowerBar) sprinted just behind Samekin for seventh and the overall Series win.

The 4,5 race ended in a field sprint with Troy Smith taking the honors and the Jefferson Cup series.
